Andromeda is a figure from Greek mythology, known as the daughter of King Cepheus and Queen Cassiopeia of Ethiopia. Cassiopeia boasted that her daughter was more beautiful than the Nereids, which angered the sea god Poseidon. To punish them, Poseidon sent a sea monster, Cetus, to ravage their kingdom. To appease the gods, Andromeda was chained to a rock as a sacrifice to the monster.
